History Buttonwood Manor was built in Cape May, NJ in 1908 as a wedding gift for Lizzie H. Richardson by her doting and wealthy father. Lizzie and her husband lived in Cape May year round. Lizzie taught piano in the parlor to young Cape May musicians. Later the house became the home and office of Dr. Isidor Markowitz, a noted family physician of the area. Subsequently, in 1988, the house was renovated and made into a bed and breakfast by the Linnington family. The present owners, Diane and Roger Ring, bought Buttonwood Manor in March 1999. Prior to this, Roger, an electrical engineer, worked for the U. S. Navy in Washington, D.C. They lived in the Maryland suburbs of Washington where Diane was a full-time homemaker raising their four children. They came to Cape May for a weekend get-away in October 1998, fell in love with the town, and decided to start a new adventure in their lives! They have filled the home with antique furniture and period lighting. There are antique clocks from Roger's grandfather's collection and a number of pieces of Nippon porcelain and American Brilliant Cut Glass. Their aim is to have you enjoy the relaxation and warm ambiance of this lovely , turn of the 20th century home. Diane says, "It is not just a B&B, it is our home and we love to share it with others."
